Esalen opens May 3, 2024

Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.

Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

Cristi Christensen is an author, global embodiment, and transformational leader, on a mission to shake up the planet. A former elite-level gymnast and platform diver, Cristi trained with the US Olympic Diving team as a young adult. After a devastating injury ended her Olympic pursuit, she faced another formidable challenge: a battle with advanced-stage cancer. This recent journey has profoundly deepened her connection to the resilience of the human spirit and the remarkable healing capabilities of the body. Through this experience, Cristi has awakened a fire inside of her, discovering an unstoppable power and strength she is now eager to share with the world. Her teachings emphasize that yoga and related practices are not about transcending our physical existence but about being deeply rooted in our bodies’ complexity, beauty, and life.

With her celebrated book Chakra Rituals: Awakening the Wild Woman Within, and two decades of experience in guiding students through transformation, Cristi has become a leading voice for women’s awakening and liberation. Her potent teachings have taken her to more than 20 countries around the globe. She has created an international 500-hour school of yoga called Kirana and is the co-founder of Deep Exhale, a transformational yoga and dance experience alongside her creative partner, Marques Wyatt.
