Esalen opens May 3, 2024

Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.

Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

Manuel Maqueda

Manuel Maqueda is an entrepreneur, a professor, a speaker, and an international innovator focused on planetary regeneration.

Manuel Maqueda is Special Programs Instructor of Applied Circular Economics and Regenerative Economics at Harvard University’s Division of Continuing Education.  Previously, he created the Circular Economy online course at the University of California, Berkeley. Manuel teaches and lectures internationally on circular and regenerative economics and innovation.

Manuel leads Bionomia, a boutique consultancy specializing in research, education, and innovation in applied circular and regenerative economics. As a futurist thinker, Manuel is a member of the Strategic Foresight Board of the Circular Economy Alliance and an advisor to forward-thinking governments and organizations worldwide.

Recognized as an expert and a pioneer in plastic pollution, Manuel is co-founder of several landmark organizations, such as the Plastic Pollution Coalition and SUPER (Single-Use Plastics Elimination or Reduction), a non-profit organization that enables companies to eliminate single-use plastics through a tiered certification program.

Manuel researches the interconnection between human consciousness, personal transformation, and planetary regeneration. He is trained in a number of inner technologies, ranging from life coaching and art-based group facilitation to Joanna Macy's The Work that Reconnects.

Manuel Maqueda teaches applied circular economics and regenerative economics at Harvard University. He is co-founder of several notable NGOs, and advises international, forward-thinking governments, companies, and organizations. Manuel researches the interconnection between consciousnesses, personal transformation, and planetary regeneration.
