Esalen opens May 3, 2024

Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.

Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

Margaret Harrsen

Margaret Harrsen is a spiritual healer and teacher exploring the divine nature of man. Her work covers the disciplines of traditional shamanic medicine, meditation, and biodynamic craniosacral therapy.

She was brought onto her path as a healer after being cured of physical maladies through prayer by two holy women on the North coast of Peru, which led to a personal mentorship with these curanderas. During this time, she also led healing retreats in South America and Europe.

Harrsen’s worldliness allowed her to experience various cultural traditions and religions, where she gained an expansive perspective on healing. Her curiosities led to a decade of study in mysticism, metaphysics, and meditation. She has explored vast spiritual and natural atmospheres that deeply imbibe her work.

Mar lives closely with the natural world and attributes her well-being to daily visits with the sea and mountains in her home of Ojai, California. The heart of her work is her private healing practice supporting adults and children, and she also leads workshops and retreats. Mar has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Vogue, The Telegraph, Condé Nast Traveller, and Goop.
