Esalen opens May 3, 2024

Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.

Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

His next book is Truth: What it is, How to Find it, Why it Matters (Fall, 2025, Johns Hopkins University Press). Dr. Shermer received his B.A. in psychology from Pepperdine University, M.A. in experimental psychology from California State University, Fullerton, and his Ph.D. in the history of science from Claremont Graduate University. He has been a professor at Glendale College, Occidental College, and for the past 12 years at Chapman University, where he taught  skepticism 101: How to Think Like a Scientist.
