Ramzi Fawaz is an award-winning queer cultural critic, educator, and public speaker. He is a professor of English at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he holds a Romnes Faculty Fellowship for advanced research in the humanities. He is the author of two books, The New Mutants: Superheroes and the Radical Imagination of American Comics (2016) and Queer Forms (2022), both published by NYU Press. As a contributing editor to the journal Film Quarterly, Fawaz publishes a regular column titled “Imagination Unbound,” which offers cutting-edge analyses of contemporary film and media. He is currently completing a third book titled Literary Theory on Acid: Reading for Diversity in the Psychedelic Era, which argues for the value of understanding contemporary humanities education as an underappreciated form of collective psychedelic therapy, which uses art, literature, and culture instead of drugs to induce positive psychological transformations in millions of American youth. As part of this work, he recently edited a special issue of the journal South Atlantic Quarterly on "Psychedelic Imaginaries," which will be published in April 2025.
