Esalen opens May 3, 2024

Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.

Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

Raquel Santiago

Raquel Santiago is a dancer and a somatics and mindfulness expert. Dubbed by the press as “the New Isadora Duncan of the Environment,” her performances decode the scientific data of the Anthropocene and carry a message of personal and collective transformation. Raquel has performed for UNESCO and for international environmental conferences, transformational festivals, and TEDx events.

Raquel is the founder of Alchemy Spinning™, an accessible yet powerful somatic supermindfulness practice, inspired by the whirling of Sufi Dervishes, that takes your body, your mind, and your spirit through a journey of self-discovery, expanded consciousness, and higher potential.

Raquel is a certified Ecoanxiety Facilitator, a Climate Reality Leader, and has studied the health effects of climate change at Harvard University; mindfulness and resilience to stress at work at UC Berkeley; and the impacts of plastics on human health and the environment at Cornell University. She holds a graduate certificate in Psychological Astrology from the Cosmograma School. Raquel has studied dance movement therapy, contemporary dance, butoh, Middle Eastern dance, African dance, Body Weather, Danza Duende, Noguchi Taiso, and other dance styles. She is a dance, yoga, and mindfulness instructor.

Raquel created the BioResilience somatic method to help people turn ecoanxiety into regenerative actions.
