I immediately understood that in fact Esalen truly is an exquisite enclave of elation, just like Joseph Campbell ecstatically expressed when he conceived the famous book “Follow Your Bliss” there. It’s the kind of place you can make fast friends over delicious organic meals at the community tables because they turn the wi-fi off to encourage conversations…It’s the kind of place where you can wake up (and simultaneously have a spiritual awakening) with the sunrise during a blissful bath in the mineral hot springs while epiphanies dance on the waves as the sea heals you. It’s a rebirth of your authentic self and a truth baptism as the illusions fall away with the tide. At that hour you will rarely have to share the baths but when you do you will meet other delightful (and delightfully naked) people. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a magical massage on the same cliff and remember you’re right on time and it’s all going to be OK. And most importantly, ultimately your soul chose all of this to receive the gifts and lessons of this spiritual contract. You can begin to hear your own inner knowing over all the gaslighting and come back to your authentic self…Maybe it IS time to let it go and create some good memories, like the ones you’re creating now…The stuff you thought mattered so much- all the remnants of the relationship—just really aren’t worth fighting for anymore. …Because you’ve just had the most wonderful, vibrantly illuminating and enlightening adventure and have encountered amazing people and eaten organic food and all you want is more of that.
