Online Workshop

“Energy moves in waves. Waves move in rhythms. Rhythms move in patterns. Patterns move in cycles. A human being is just this. Nothing more. Nothing less. A dance.”  –Gabrielle Roth

Join us as we journey into an exploration of ritual healing for women. What is your relationship to the feminine and her wisdom? How empowered do you feel as a woman navigating this world? This retreat welcomes any person who identifies as a Woman+.

This workshop is focused on celebrating the body of Woman+ and the sacred feminine within. Through ritual practices, we will share in the sisterhood of humanity and all that it encompasses. We will engage in moving and seated meditation, self-care, Women(+)'s health fundamentals, and sharing circles. We will learn skills that support our empowerment, inner balance, and well-being during and after the time of this pandemic. These practices act as a poultice for old wounds while at the same time celebrate our present earthly bodies.

Dr Julie Von will share powerful, practical techniques to balance your nervous system and identify the unresolved wounds that might be keeping you in a constant state of reaction and stagnation, freeing your creativity and intuition. Lucia Horan leads us in a movement practice that combines stillness of Buddhist mindfulness with the moving mediation of dance to access and transform our bodies.

*Woman+ means all trans, queer, non-binary and gender non-conforming people.

Lucia has been practicing Theravadin Buddhist meditation since 2005. She has devoted herself to the path of insight meditation as a complement to her moving meditation practice. Her primary learning concentration and training transmission was given to her by Robert Hall.

Having completed training in Buddha-Dharma with ATS, Lucia is formally empowered to carry forth and teach in all capacities the Dharma of liberation based on the teaching of the American-Buddhist lineage of Noah Levine, Jack Kornfield, and the forest masters of Thailand, including Ajahn Chah, Ajan Buddhadasa, and the retreat masters of Burma in the lineage of Mahasi Sayadaw.

Additionally, Lucia has completed David Treleaven’s Trauma-Sensitive mindfulness training. These practices have informed all of her teachings and act as a teaching lens in which to better understand the spectrum of trauma in any given room.

Her unique perspectives on insight practice have been published in the book Dancing with Dharma: Essays on Movement And Dance in Western Buddhism, edited by Harrison Blum and published by McFarland & Company. Lucia offers traditional dharma teachings, not as a “master Dharma teacher” but as a Dharma sister on the path of awakening. She invites you to practice with her, not under her.

Lucia teaches skills and strategies that help her students become better emotional and physical athletes of life. Her mastery is in the field of somatic meditation and dance. Her teaching is infused with her love for the dance and faith in these practices. Lucia currently resides in Wellington, New Zealand with her daughter and husband, Douglas Drummond. She teaches from a place of love, as a fellow human walking the path toward wholeness, peacefulness, and well-being.

Curriculum Outline

Week 1

Module 1

Day 1

Introduction

We will begin our journey with the history of Moon Lodge and by setting intentions for our experience together. This session will be focused on setting the framework for a safe environment for learning, healing, and sharing. A circle calls us to bring our full presence to beginning, middle, and end: birth, life, and death. We will reflect on where we are, where we come from, and where we want to be.

Week 2

Module 2

Day 2

Physical Body

A deep dive into the stories our physical bodies hold. We will track expansion and contraction as a way to help us understand what is happening in the present moment and guide our intuition. Learn how to create your own personal rites of passage to bring home to yourself and those you love.

Week 3

Module 3

Day 3

Heart & Emotion

Compassion is the umbrella that expands and allows us to be with all that is. This week we learn to recognize the difference between the emotional mind vs emotional instinct rooted in the body. This brings us into conversion with our emotions and uncovers our power to transform and heal.

Week 4

Module 4

Day 4

Mind & Story

Explore liberating your story and identify where it hinders or frees you. Through mindfulness techniques, learn to track habitual patterns and create spaciousness so you may move in action vs reaction. Thoughts reflect reality. By the redirection of our thoughts, we can open new neuro-channels and new possibilities of experiencing the present moment.

Week 5

Module 5

Day 5

Spirit & Fusion

In this unifying week, we weave together body, heart, mind, and spirit connection. We honor each of our unique spiritual beliefs and backgrounds, while strengthening our collective prayer. Here, we learn to access practices that open and clarify intuition.

Week 6

Module 6

Day 6

Integration

The Moon Lodge circle has allowed us to collectively hold what should not be held alone. Integration is bringing the circle home so that as women we may experience acceptance, enoughness, and wholeness. We mark where we have been, what we have healed and how we may transform further through action and service within our own communities.
