Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.
Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.
Mark Abramson founded Stanford University’s Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Clinic in 1995, modeled after the University of Massachusetts MBSR clinic founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, and has been featured on Bill Moyer's PBS series, Healing and the Mind. His classes at Stanford bring together a mix of students, the public, parents, Silicon Valley workers, and patients who are referred to the clinic to treat a broad range of medical conditions using mindfulness practices to support better health and happiness. He additionally conducts programs in mindfulness for corporations, and has taught at the World Economic Forum and for national organizations such as the American Dental Association.
As a dentist, Dr. Abramson has developed a unique practice specializing in the treatment of chronic pain and temporomandibular disorders, integrating non-drug oriented care with traditional approaches, mind/body techniques, osteopathic manual medicine, and acupuncture. He has also invented a dental medical device for treating sleep apnea.
Dr. Mark Abramson is the founder of Stanford University Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program. He teaches at Stanford, conducts programs in mindfulness for corporations, and has a private dental practice.
