Visitors are now able to access Esalen as well as other businesses and trails in northern Big Sur via twice-daily convoys on Highway 1 operated by Caltrans.
Convoys run only at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. These are the only opportunities to travel into and out of Big Sur, so visitors must plan accordingly.

Cari is the Vice Chair of the Esselen Tribe and medicine woman for the Esselen Tribe. Cari extends her healing and reconciliation practice into mending the sacred hoop. She is a survivor leader and somatic therapist. By experiencing and continuing her ancestral knowledge, Cari shares the connection to her Esselen culture. It is this connection to her Ancestors that allows her to regulate her unhealed trauma.
Carl Swanson is an Esalen Massage practitioner/instructor and a yoga instructor. He has taught workshops at Esalen and abroad.
Carla Fernandez is a strategist for Census Open Innovation Lab where she focuses on designing unexpected experiences that help individuals, teams and communities move forward. Carla has conceptualized and facilitated experiences that include creatives, police chiefs, a youth poet laureate, government appointees, researchers, major funders, brand leaders, and a community of 6,000 millennials she built from scratch with the intention of getting disparate groups of people to connect, come up with ideas and take action together. Her work has been featured in NPR, Oprah Magazine, the New York Times, and as a case study in multiple books. Carla is a Reynold's Scholar at NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where she concentrated in Social Entrepreneurship, and is a Senior Fellow at USC's Annenberg Innovation Lab.

Carol Bevilacqua is an accomplished tile maker, sculptor, and mosaic artist. She is an inspiring instructor at the Institute of Mosaic Art in Berkeley and teaches community-based mosaic through the Richmond Artists in Schools/Community program.

Carrie Northover is the Director of Research Services at 23andMe. She leads the Project Management function, a team responsible for executing on strategic cross-functional projects such as research partnerships and product launches. She earned her PhD in Biological Sciences from Stanford University.
Cassandra Vieten, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist, mind-body medicine researcher, author, consultant, and public speaker. She is a clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine's Centers for Integrative Health at the University of California, San Diego, where she serves as the director of the Center for Mindfulness and as Director of Research at the Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination. Cassi is also co-founder and Clinical Psychology Director at the Psychedelics and Health Research Initiative at UCSD, Senior Advisor of the John W. Brick Mental Health Foundation, and Senior Fellow at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), where she worked for 18 years. She served as CEO/President from 2013-2016.

Chandra Easton is a teacher, author, and translator of Tibetan Buddhist texts. She has taught Buddhism and Hatha Yoga since 2001 and was given the title of Vajra Teacher, Dorje Lopön, in 2015. She serves on Tara Mandala’s Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Council. She is the author of Embodying Tara (2023).
Char Pias: “My teaching of Esalen® Massage is based on awareness practice, principles of energetics, unlocking the nervous system, and an emphasis on self-care.” Char began teaching at Esalen in 1984; she also teaches throughout California and in Europe, Japan, and Canada.
Charlea Massion, a family physician, is the medical director of Hospice of Santa Cruz County and a hospital inpatient palliative care consultant in Santa Cruz, Calif. She has taught Esalen workshops on self-care and work-life balance for health care professionals since 1997.
